Survival Rain Gear Is A Must For Everyone That Is A Survivalist

Rain gear is essential for everyone that is preparing for when the SHTF.

When things go bad and the SHTF there will still be rain and bad weather. Having good rain gear is essential for every bug out bag. Living here in Florida it rains all the time, and we get those pesky hurricanes that we sometimes have to bug out during. Even though it is hot during hurricanes you still want to stay as dry as possible. Nothing is more uncomfortable than trying to live or work when your soaking wet and sweating to death.

Hypothermia is something that we don’t have to worry about very often in Florida but hypothermia is a serious problem that can cause death if you are not careful. Not everyone is as fortunate as us to live in Florida, so hypothermia needs to be a major concern for you.

Good quality rain-gear that is comfortable to wear and solid enough to keep you dry from head to toe. If you live in part of the country where hypothermia is issue you will want good rain gear that will also keep your body warm along with keeping you dry.

Remember not all rain gear is made the same. Rain gear is one of those items, where you get what you pay for. For good quality rain gear, this is not something that you can pick up at your local box store or discount warehouse. A good rain suit is going to start in the neighborhood of $100.00 and go up from there. You must know the difference between water-resistant to water-repellent and water-proof.

Types of rain protection

Water-resistant is the least amount of protection that will be on the rain suit to help the rain from soaking through the material. What happens is that over time water will seep through the material and make you wet.
Water-repellant is only a little better than water-resistant. Water will eventually make it through the material and you will get wet but it will take more time than water-resistant material will.
Water-proof is protected at 100%. The water-proofing will keep you dry even in extreme conditions.

As a backup, you will want a poncho stored in your bug-out-bag also. You will be grateful when you find yourself losing your rain suit or it gets shredded by hiking in the wilderness. A poncho offers you additional protection for you and your pack. Plus when in need of a tarp a poncho can double as a tarp.

Here are three of our recommended rain-suites for all inclement weather conditions.
